"My many years of practicing medicine have taught me that true healing occurs from the client more so than from the health care provider. The role of the health care team is to engage, educate, and empower the client in order to facilitate a path to optimal health. Such a task requires the participation and cooperative efforts of a variety of disciplines, traditional and complimentary, in an interdisciplinary fashion all of whom must have a common vision and message that permeates throughout the patient's journey to better health. I believe that this concept is the cornerstone of modern day disease management and functional optimization. This vision led me to the inception of the Institute for Restorative Health."

Lee Ockenden, MFT, is a Behavioral Medicine Specialist at IRH.  Lee studied transpersonal and holistic psychology at Sonoma State University, then moved to southern California where he obtained his Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1996 at Hope International University.  While teaching at his graduate Alma Mater, Lee began a part time private practice in Fullerton.  He added clinical experience at various private and public sector agencies.

Lee took a special interest in how traumatic experience, both acute and chronic, affected people physiologically and emotionally.  He pursued the most progressive trainings and seminars at the time for resolving trauma (PTSD), panic/anxiety and phobias and began to specialize in working with individuals affected by unresolved traumas and losses from their past.  In 2001, Lee started a private practice in Vacaville while providing psychological services for Solano Adult Mental Health.

In 2003, Lee met John Leonard, Ph.D., developer and creator of Neurobehavioral programs, and became trained as an NBP (NeuroBehavioral Pain Management) Practitioner.  Having worked extensively with issues related to trauma, grief and loss issues, Lee came to the connection between mental, physical and spiritual well-being.  He has taught clients for years now how to manage somatic symptoms by simple and practical methods.  Blending a clinical/behavioral approach with the knowledge of mind/body healing, Lee is able to support and progress people on their quest for optimal physical and emotional health.

"The body's natural intention is to heal itself.  The body's greatest ally is the mind.  Attaining wholeness of the mind is integral to allowing healing to occur. The greater the mental or emotional barriers, the greater the level of freedom is enjoyed in its absence.  My privilege is to assist in this process with integrity and respect."
